A Pathan is, by definition, anybody who speaks Pashto. Anybody who speaks Pashto, as their mother language, is a Pathan. There are may dialects of Pashto. There are two major varieties, the Pashtu spoken in Kandahar and the Pukhto spoken in Swat and points in between. These are dangerous people. Do not mess with them.
