Knowing that his people were sold as slaves in the United States not so long ago, eleven-year-old Kofi is afraid to move to New Orleans, Louisiana, but when his parents divorced they agreed to this plan and Kofi must go and join a father he barely remembers.
Pepa comes with her family from Mexico to find a better life in America, but first struggles through cold winters in the Midwest, working as a migrant field worker.
