Significant Silence.
My violin in orchestra I play,
And as I help to swell the glorious strain,
The music so inspires my striving brain,
That intricacies bring me no dismay.
But bars of rest upon my spirit weigh,
For easier 'tis to do than to refrain,
And of the measured silence I complain,
While passive, yet alert, my hand I stay.
Life's silences when we, unwilling, rest,
Are difficult!...
