Periodontitis is a polymicrobial infectious disease of multifactorial origin. Plaque biofilm and associated host responses are involved in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Organisms strongly implicated as etiologic agents include Gramnegative, anaerobic bacteria within the biofilm .
