The Nautilus is a fictional submarine found in Jules Verne's novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. The sub, and its crew, sail to many places in the world's oceans from the Antarctic ice shelves to the Red Sea. They have many adventures and encounter mysterious creatures of the deep including a battle with a giant squid. This piece describes the various exploits of the ship and its time at sea.

This work serves as an introduction to the 7/8 time signature. It opens with an intense fire and drive. The lyrical middle section features simple flowing melodies above syncopated support. The 7/8 returns in the third section but is more dance-like to bring the piece to a happy and satisfying conclusion. Victory in Defeat is arranged by David Marlatt for brass quintet.

The Dragon King, China's first emperor was crowned in 221 B.C. He unified the various states throughout the country and led with an iron hand. Some of the massive projects he ordered were the construction of the Great Wall of China, a new palace, and an enormous tomb containing the famous Terracotta Army. This work captures the grandeur and boldness of this leader and features the use of the pentatonic scale, giving this piece an Asian feel.
