Alexander McAulay was the first professor of mathematics and physics at the University of Tasmania, Hobart, Tasmania. He was also a proponent of dual quaternions, which he termed "octonions" or "Clifford biquaternions". McAulay was born on 9 December 1863 and attended Kingswood School in Bath. This book, "Utility of quaternions in physics", by Alexander McAulay, is a replication of a book originally published before 1893. It has been restored ...
This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the original. Due to its age, it may contain imperfections such as marks, notations, marginalia and flawed pages. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions that are true to the original work.
This book has been considered by academicians and scholars of great significance and value to literature. This forms a part of the knowledge base for future generations. So that the book is never forgotten we have represented this book in a print format as the same form as it was originally first published. But I fear that many references to the work of others which ought to occur are wanting. The treatise was written at a distance from all mathematical libraries. I believe I should have been able to improve it in many respects if I had been able to consult the many authorities cited by Si...
