A prolific and influential writer of his day, George Robert Stowe Mead was heavily involved in Hermetic and Gnostic scholarship of the time, as well he was a regular contributor to Theosophical journals of his day. Here he examines the four gospels in The Present Position of the Synoptical Problem, which precedes the second essay The Fourth-Gospel Problem, which examines the tradition of John the apostle.

The Pistis Sophia is a major Gnostic text, dating back to the early 2nd Century. Non-canonical, the text claims that after His resurection, Christ remained on Earth for another eleven years, teaching His Disciples up to the first level of the Mystery. In Gnostic teachings, the Sophia is the female aspect of God, and Christ is the male aspect of Divinity.

The Poimandres or Pymander is the first tractate in the Corpus Hermeticum. Here the renowned Theosophical author G. R. S. Mead, offers some of his philosophical commentary on this classical Hermetic work.
