The Chase Dance is a fast work in rhythm with an introduction presenting the whole-tone scale. The introduction has no meter. Most of the tonal material comes from the composer's Greek traditional heritage both as a listener and as a musician. Alternating 5/8, 6/8, 7/8 and 9/8 meters increase the tension as well as the nerves of the performer as the end approaches. The piece ends almost abruptly, as chases often do.
