This work examines a variety of invitations to social events that were utilized in the United Kingdom during the early years of the reign of Queen Victoria. The social etiquette standards that were embraced during the early years of her reign had a profound and lasting influence on the social landscape of the entire civilized world.

This study examines the attire that was typically worn to fancy social engagements during the Mid-Nineteenth century. Those who were invited to attend those special social engagements usually took great care to appear wearing the most appropriate attire suitable for the specific occasion.

This survey represents a compilation of hundreds of invitations, tickets, dance cards, letters, newspaper advertisements, photographs and a variety of other related items that were used during the Mid-Nineteenth Century. Every invitation represents a solicitation to attend an actual event that took place during the era. So, in essence, each item displayed is an original source and every photograph displayed represents a captured moment in time...
