Meeboer, Ryan
Techno Boom
Techno Boom is meant to be a fun and simple pop tune to be played by Boomwhackers(R). The piece is made up of only two alternating sections, much like popular dance tunes. This piece requires 5 players---4 on Boomwhackers and 1 on drumset.

Three

Broughton, Bruce
Three
The title Three" refers to three primary elements of the piece: a three- movement work, each of which is in three sections, performed by three players. The movements are composed in a conventional fast/slow/fast sequence. The trumpet parts are antiphonal, alternating phrases, and ideas between themselves throughout the piece, while the piano supports and compliments, but does not share the trumpets' themes. This is a brilliant work by talented...

The Age of the Dinosaur

Marlatt, David
The Age of the Dinosaur
The savage T-Rex, the lumbering huge four-legged sauropods and the gliding flying pteraosaurs are the characters in this fun piece for very young band. The sauropods open this piece and, at over 100 feet long and 100 tons, they are heavy and plodding. The pterosaur (which means winged lizard) floats effortlessly through the air getting a great view of the carnivores as they stalk their prey with their powerful and sudden attacks. Welcome to th...

As We Sleep

Meeboer, Ryan
As We Sleep
This lyrical piece is a modern lullaby. It begins with a peaceful feeling and slowly builds into a beautiful, chorale-like section, reflecting the wonderful dreams we have as we fall into our deepest sleep. (2:40)

Bolero

Marlatt, David
Bolero
As the title suggests, this piece is Spanish in style. After opening with a short fanfare, the melody is then passed equally between the two lead flutes with the lower voices adding rhythmic chords and countermelodies. Fun and energetic, this is a great piece to add some international color to a concert or special event.

River Valley Sketches

Donnelly, Matthew
River Valley Sketches
River Valley Sketches was written as a short musical depiction of the composer's hometown and the river that runs through it. The inspiration for some of the melodic and rhythmic material comes from the Scottish River Nith and has that great Scottish flare to it. Well scored and clever writing allow for the band members to contribute interesting lines and musical ideas. (4:10)

The American West

Mruzek, David

The Mountain Troll

Kaisershot, Kevin
The Mountain Troll
This creature is not very coordinated as is evident in the troll dance" sequence which begins in the middle of this fun piece. Imagine the hilarity that must ensue as the troll attempts to keep time in the dance having no sense of rhythm whatsoever. We've all seen (or know of) people just like this! Fun to play and listen to. (3:40)

Rise of the Phoenix

Marlatt, David
Rise of the Phoenix
Rise of the Phoenix is a bold overture with some unique and colorful sounds. After a short introduction, it is set in three main sections. The first part - a build up of short rhythmic figures all using the major pentatonic scale. This pays homage to the ancient Chinese roots of the phoenix legend. The second section is smooth and lyrical in nature providing an opportunity to showoff an oboist (cued in other voices as well). The fire is defini...

St. Anthony Chorale

Haydn, Franz Joseph / Marlatt, David
St. Anthony Chorale
This famous melody has been attributed to Haydn but there is doubt whether he was the composer. Johannes Brahms wrote a famous set of variations based on this melody calling it Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn. The music is simple and stately with the melody moving between several sections of the band. (2:45)
