Excerpt from A History of Chemistry From the Earliest TimesThe late Dr. Campbell Brown was accustomed, as part of his Chemical Course at Liverpool University, to deliver a series of Lectures on the History of Chemistry. These lectures were to him a labour of love, and were prepared after much research into the original authorities, including many old and rare treatises. It was his intention, when release from the duties of his Chair should have afforded him the necessary leisure, to revise the lectures and to put them into shape for publication.
