A Journey Of Reason

The author is a retired social worker and occasional thinker. Born in North Carolina in the times of Jim Crow, he was educated during the 1960's incomplete adjustment to integration and struggles for Civil Rights and against the Vietnam War. Earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he spent nearly 40 years in social service organizations finding him with the American Red Cross during the tumultuous adjustment after the War in Vietnam and the social fear and unrest of South Korea prior to and surrounding the assassination of Park Chung Hee in 1979. After several other postings with Red Cross, he returned to North Carolina and entered the trenches of Child Protective Services of the mid-1980's rural South faced with flagging economy, severe unemployment, the first real surges of the cocaine years and the impacts on child abuse and neglect that they all helped to foster. He returned to American Red Cross in 1990 and retired in 2013 after a combined 33 years in service to the American military, receiving the Department of Defense Civilian Service Medal for service in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait during Operation Desert Shield/Storm and the NATO Service Medal for service in Bosnia after the Peace Accords of 1995. In a thoughtful, frank, often rye fashion, A Journey of Reason presents the observations and thinking molded by these experiences and challenges readers to think for themselves.
