The revision has been undertaken with that point in view, and although much has been added, and still more rewritten, the same avoidance of unnecessary theory and dis cussion has been adhered to. The work is not meant to be a text - book nor a series of monographs, but a manual designed for the purpose of giving in a concrete form the essentials of pathology. Many recent ideas might have been introduced, but until they have stood the test of time and criticism they have no place in a book intended for students beginning the study of medicine.In revising for the second edition the endeavor was to bring up to date as much as possible the material that was already in the book.
