The Latin dictionaries now in common use, what ever may be said of the manner in which they do what they propose to do, are essentially deficient in the plan on which they are executed. It is somewhat remarkable that, for nearly a century past, so little has been done in England towards the systematic lexicography of the Latin tongue. Not that the researches of the learned have been either shallow or fruitless, but that no one has been, found to turn them to account.
