A Poetical Epistle to His Excellency George Washington

Bell, Charles Henry Wharton John

A Poetical Epistle to His Excellency George Washington

Excerpt from A Poetical Epistle to His Excellency George Washington: Commander in Chief of the Armies of the United States of America, From an Inhabitant of the State of Maryland

The Reader may depend upon the following Poem being the genuine production of a native of America: the author is not vain enough to flatter himself, that it will throw any fresh lustre on the character of General Washington, or entitle his unskilful muse to the smallest degree of poetical fame. His sole view in penning this epistle was to express in the best manner he was able, the warm feelings of a grateful individual towards that distinguished and bed of men, to whom he, and every American, will in all likelihood be indebted for the independence and commercial prosperity of his country.
