In the early summer of 1919 the United States Interdepartmental Social Hygiene Board made a grant of to the Psychological Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University for the purpose of assist ing the laboratory in investigating the informational and educative effect upon the public of certain motion-picture films used in various campaigns for the control, repression, and elimination of venereal diseases. At the time the grant was made, Dr. T. A. Storey, exec utive secretary of the Board, suggested that the work should be carried out under the general supervision of an advisory board approved by the United States Interdepartmental Social Hygiene Board. Dr. Adolf Meyer, Dr. S. I. Franz and Professor R. S. Wood'worth were asked to serve in this capacity, and the experimental work has been carried out by the writers in consulta tion and with the approval of this board.
