IN the story of Arthur Lenox we present to our young friends no impossible nor fictitious character. His success in life was not the result of some felicity of position, neither due to any of those Opportunities that war, speculation, or some peculiar contingency in society, at times presents to aspiring minds.

We are called, on the other hand, to follow step by step the progress of a lad who leaves home barefoot and penniless, but with one definite purpose kept steadily in view and pursued with patient, unflinching toil, and who conquered success by improving those ordinary means to which most young men would not stoop and others would pass by unnoticed. By per forming the work that first presented itself he succeeded, while others, waiting to obtain something better, suffered shipwreck.
