The examples introduced to illustrate the text have also been selected in part from the works of such well-known writers as Weisbach, Osborne Reynolds, and Cotterill, but the greater number are such as have occurred in the course of the author's own experience. The tables of coefficients of discharge have been prepared from the results of experiments carried out in the Hydraulic Laboratory of the University.
