There in 1715 the Earl of Mar raised the banner of revolt against the Hanoverian dynasty, proclaiming the Chevalier at the Market Cross, while James holding his mock regal court at Fetteresso was there presented by the City Magistrates (of his own making) by the University Professors, and Episcopalian clergy with a foolish address.
