The dynamics of knowledge creation are examined here in a case study of feminist scholarship. This analysis of the career histories and intellectual biographies of academic women from the 1960s to the 1980s reveals how historically specific conditions enabled some of them to establish intellectual space for feminist scholarship in the disciplines and, more broadly, in the academy.
