Adventures of the Catford Five

Adventures of The Catford Five A West Indian family, the Jacksons, (married couple and two children) living in Catford, gradually acquire five cats which come into the household as stray or unwanted outcasts of other households. Gradually the family come to warm to the animals although the two males of the Jackson family are slow to accept the cats at first. However, Jessica the daughter of the family has ambitions to be a vet and considers caring for the cats a useful preparation for her future studies. The family emigrate to the Caribbean, with the cats, where they become embroiled in a series of adventures involving the kidnapping of the cats, and, a family friend, Mr Davenport. His sister, Mrs Scott, is on a visit to him. She is a witch who is known by her neighbours in London as 'The Cat Woman', keeps a large collection of cats in her house, and speaks with cats on their own terms. The cats, Mr Davenport, and, the children are kidnapped on the island by two men. The kidnappers release the children and Mr Davenport, the latter for a big sum but are intent on taking the cats to South America. Using her special empathy with cats Daisy rescues Cinders, one of the cats, at night. After a series of adventures on the a nearby island, and the mainland of Venezuela, Daisy rescues the other cats and return them to the Jackson. Mr Davenport marries on the island, Daisy returns to her large brood of feline friends in London. Issues around ecology, and medical research on animals are tackled with a light touch.
