Clashes of faith are increasingly common globally but this in-depth study of peaceful religious coexistence and social cohesion in the South Indian town of Tranquebar (birthplace of the Lutheran mission to India and now a famous heritage site) shows that religion is linked to other social factors and may promote unity as well as division.
