The author records it as his deliberate judgment, after years of experience, that in order that the greatest good shall be de rived from the work which follows, the student must prepare a note-book covering the entire work. It may simply be supple mental to this book, but a much better plan is to make it complete in itself, including title-page, a short introduction, preliminary definitions, laboratory memoranda, equations, tabu lated work, synopses, and especially all facts and principles which have been deduced from the work. Nothing else can take the place of this part of the study.
