IN a work published by the Author a few years ago, entitled An Enquiry into the Principles of Human Happiness and Human Duty, a detailed account was given of some of the principal desires, chie¿y with a view to their in¿uence upon human happiness, but no attempt was made at a general classification and theory of the Emotions, such as is contained in the present volume. Those desires which were treated of at large in the previous work are here but brie¿y noticed, the reader being referred to the Enquiry for a fuller investigation.
