Annals of the Carnegie Museum, Vol. 13

Excerpt from Annals of the Carnegie Museum, Vol. 13: 1919-1922The insects, which are included in this suborder of the Saltatorial Orthoptera, are very numerous and widely scattered over the surface of the earth, wherever there is sufficient vegetation to afford them sustenance and where they may find security against some of their host of enemies. Of course, as might be expected, the species and individuals are most abundant in warmer and more humid regions. Nevertheless comparatively numerous representatives of the group are to be met with in hot, arid regions, as well as in cooler countries towards the poles. In the introductions to the sections dealing with families, contained in former papers on these insects, I have written somewhat extensively upon their life-histories, food-habits, and distribution. I will not here repeat what already has been said upon these subjects.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
