H., For the Year 1895-1896The table of deaths given shows the death rate to have been a little less than the average for the past ten years. The number of deaths of children under five years of age is still alarmingly large. We are in hopes that in time some way may be found to take better care of the little ones. Certain it is that we cannot hope for much of a reduction in our death rate while 53 per cent of the total number of deaths are of children under five years Of age. In some of the larger cities the mortality among children has been much reduced by the introduction and use of sterilized milk.
