The mid-year population of North Carolina, excluding armed forces over seas, as estimated by the United States Bureau of the Census for 1946, Was The estimate for 1945 was The increase in 1946, therefore, amounted to Undoubtedly some of this increase Was due to returning servicemen, however, the natural increase (excess of births over deaths) for 1946 was which was the largest natural increase in the history of the state.
