Atlantis, The Antediluvian World - Large Print Edition

Atlantis is or was a place described as containing an ideal and advanced society. It was first described by the famous Greek philosopher Plato in 360 BC (Before Christ). Antediluvian is of or relating to the period before the flood of Noah as described in the Bible. Nobody knows if Plato was describing a real place or if he was simply describing an ideal but imaginary place.According to Plato, Atlantis was an island destroyed 11, 600 years ago by a giant tsunami that wiped away the entire population except for a few who managed to survive and tell what had happened. It has long been assumed to be just a story to illustrate what an ideal society would be like in the Republic of Plato. However, now videos and websites have appeared on the Internet said to show pictures of real under-sea buildings and statues in Atlantis and that Atlantis is a real place. Atlantis is said to be owned by the Greek God Atlas who was given the task of holding up the world and said to be located in the Atlantic Ocean. Atlantis is named after the Atlantic Ocean and after the God Atlas, Atlanta, a City in Georgia, is also named after Atlantis. Atlantis is also the name of a swanky resort that advertises constantly on the network news and features beautiful young women waiting to serve you, unless you are able to bring one yourself. The "Atlantic Ocean" is derived from "Sea of Atlas". In Ancient Greek, Plato's Timaeus dialogue also mentions "¿τλaντ¿ς ν¿σος" meaning "Atlas's Island", giving rise to the English derivative: Atlantis. Although stories about Atlantis have been around for more than two thousand years, it is only within the last 130 years that interest in Atlantis has been renewed by this book. This book finds similarities between the cultures of Europe and Egypt and the cultures of South America. A look at the map shows that the bulge of West Africa fits into the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. We now know that this is not a coincidence. Africa was in fact attached to South America, but that was more than a hundred million years ago before the Continental Shift caused them to drift apart and before humans arrived. Doggerland is an area of land, now submerged beneath the southern North Sea, that connected Britain to continental Europe. It was flooded by rising sea levels around 6500-6200 BC. Geological surveys have suggested that it stretched from Britain's east coast to the Netherlands and the western coasts of Germany and the peninsula of Jutland. It was probably a rich habitat with human habitation in the Mesolithic period, although rising sea levels gradually reduced it to low-lying islands before its final submergence, possibly following a tsunami. The archaeological potential of the area was first identified in the early 20th century. It explains the linguistic similarity between the Dutch and the English Languages. With modern discoveries by science and geology, many of the theories of Ignatius Donnelley are now discredited. However some of his theories have been proven to be true. This book has been reprinted more than a dozen times by different publishers. However, some of these reprints are deeply flawed. Entire sections are left out. Pages are re-organized or re-written. Many of these reprints, books and websites cannot be trusted. Is this real science, or Quack pseudo-science?
