There is range of segments under the umbrella of textile industry- hand- woven, an unorganized segment on one end, to capital-intensive on the other. The strength of India is that it is the largest producer of jute and cotton. India is also a second largest silk producing country.

These textiles have applications in multiple areas of economic activity, such as aerospace, shipping, sports, agriculture, defence and health care.
