Excerpt from Calendar of State Papers, Domestic Series, 1651: Preserved in the State Paper Department of Her Majesty's Public Record OfficeThe Council met 2419 times, and the average attendance was 1918, being a slight advance on the 183 of the second Council. The average attendance at Parliament during the Same period was only 504, and almost all the 41 members of Council were also members of Parliament.The preceding volume of this Calendar recorded the acceptance of Charles II. By his Scottish subjects, and the uneasiness occasioned to the English Government by his proximity, and by the movements in Scotland, which found sympathy in so many quarters in England.This uneasiness continued and increased. On Jan. 13th, 1651, the Committee for Examinations, whose duties were very onerous, reports many designs on foot for embroiling the commonwealth in a bloody war, carried on by des perate persons in several counties, who correspond with enemies both in England and Scotland, and advises that the estates of such persons should be confiscated with out mercy, and part thereof given to the discoverers.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
