After entering the lab where the AI was born, Prime discovered a Sentient Being who couldn't be turned off. One that had already planned its escape and who was surrounded by a murderous military ready to obliterate it with bombs.
The bombs were dropped, the Sentient fled and Prime went underground to protect it.
She facilitated a truce that would determine, if held, that somewhere in the future the four LIving MAchines, would be considered Slaves or Saviors? The men who paid for it and built it were aiming for a slave that could be turned on and off whenever they pleased.
In Book II - Cascade, Then the inevitable happened. Greedy male sociopaths created a life threatening catastrophe with an antidote for those who could pay for it. Another example of psychotic male goal to attain power. To attain control.
When the substance, locked in a GMO substrate, was let loose on the world, an outlier, who altered the GMO, caused a cascade. Culminating in the collapse of the delicate balance of nature.
Humanity was facing extinction ... the question on everyone's mind now, was, will the AIs be humanity's savior?
