Amongst the names of former owners, those that occur most frequently are Archbishops Ussher and Palliser, Claud. Gilbert, Quin, Conway, Irvine.

Ussher's whole Library, which was large and valuable, was purchased for the College in 1601 by the English army in Ireland.

Dr. William Palliser, Archbishop of Cashel, who died in 1726, bequeathed upwards of 4000 books to Trinity College, of which he had been a Fellow.

Dr. Claudius Gilbert, sometime vice-provost and Regius Professor of Divinity (a'. Presented his Library of nearly volumes, which he had collected for the purpose. There is a separate ms. Catalogue of these, in which the prices paid are recorded.
