Catholicism and Same Sex Attraction

Born in New York City of a Russian-Jewish father and an Irish Catholic mother who were both vaudevillians, James B. Lloyd is a Paulist priest ordained in 1948. He served as a Missionary in South Africa, taught Catholic theology in the Paulist Information Center in New York and moderated a Television program for 15 years on WNBC. He was President of St. Peter's College, Baltimore, a House of Formation for aspiring students to the priesthood. He served as Director of the Graduate Division of pastoral Counseling at Iona College, New Rochelle, New York. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from New York University and a License to practice Psychology in New York State. He has been appointed by Archbishop Dolan to function as the Archdiocescan Courage representative for Ministry to Same Sex Attracted Catholics.

The goal of this book is to present clearly and simply the position of the Catholic Church on Same Sex Attraction, variously known as the Gay life style or Homosexuality. Re lecting the overall compassionate stance of the Church towards all human beings, this book attempts to present truth with charity, understanding and kindness. It attempts to clear up certain confusions which exist in some contemporary quarters, even within the Church itself and sometimes even in the clergy. The overall mood follows traditional thinking as found in the Catholic Catechism and of icial Church documents. Further, the attempt is made to high light the beauty and real possibility of the virtue of
Chastity, both interior and exterior.

This book is a wide ranging look at the theological, psychological and social consequences of "acted out" same sex behavior. Much of this book is in luenced by the author's background in the psychological as can be seen in the chapter on Same Sex Marriage as well as the chapters on the meaning of morality, itself and Porno and National Well Being. This is a somewhat provocative book which might run counter to much of American social mores. It will make the reader think deeply even in disagreement.
