Most communities rely on services provided by nonprofit organizations: a shelter for victims of domestic violence, safe afterschool programs, emergency support for victims of fire or flood from the American Red Cross and local groups, and social need support from groups such as food pantries and homeless shelters.
In addition local nonprofits augment the life of a community through arts and theater programs as well as support for the local libraries, museums and schools.
