Cheating the Holocaust

Jones, Kay Bryan

Cheating the Holocaust

Ingrid Levi was born at the onset of WWII to a Jewish father and a German mother. Her parents had been married 22 years and she was their first and only child. The Germans were turning against the Jews at an alarming rate. Ingrid's father was a traveling merchant and was living in fear. This new child was very scary. Her parents feared she would be taken to the gas chambers at Dauchau nearby. A high ranking Nazi officer hid Ingrid until the war was over. The risk to his only family was unbelievable but they pretended she was their child and survived. God sent Americans into her life through the officer that would much later bring her to America. She first traveled a rocky road. The end of the war found her father gone, her mother involved with a German Air Force officer, and Ingrid spending only a few precious years with her mother. Then came the convent and an eventual move to America. The road never smoothed out but through it all she never lost her faith. Two marriages and an unbelievable cadaver arm transplant brought her to this time. As she says "For such a time as this".
