Child of the Holocaust

Child of the Holocaust

Child Survived Nazi Terror in Bombed-Out Budapest
Walk in the shoes of a small boy who roamed the streets of a war-torn country…

…dodging bullets of Nazi soldiers

…cutting up frozen horses for food

…dashing across a bridge as it's being bombed

A factual recollection of the events just as they happened.
Until the age of five, Yitzhak (Heinz) Dishon, his parents, two sisters and brother lived in the lovely university town of Heidelberg, Germany.

In 1938, the Deutch family knew their lives were in danger and they had to leave Germany. Solomon Deutch had a Hungarian passport and took his wife and Yitzhak to Budapest. The older children were sent to relatives in Sweden.

Yitzhak and his family lived a safe but penurious life in Budapest until a pro-Nazi government took control. His parents eventually were sent to Auschwitz and he was left on his own in Nazi-occupied Hungary. His courage, intelligence and luck helped him survive.
