This, beyond doubt, was the alpha and omega in those strangely efficient ministrations of the apostles. The only door of hope they opened for the despairing sinner was through' a propitiatory sacrifice having stated this doctrine with no markable clearness, as we will hereafter see, they guard it by fearful denunciations against those who attempt to teach some other way of justification. If we, say they, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel, let him be accursed.But it cannot be denied, that among those who are called Christians, and profess to receive the testimony that God has given of his Son, very different opinions concerning the character and work of Christ have obtained.
