The second edition of this book was so thoroughly revised and so largely augmented, that it has not been found necessary in this issue to alter any part of the body of the work. An Appendix has however been added, in which the subjects of Sea Voyages and the Winter Resorts of the Canary Islands are fully considered.

The Author is glad also to have this opportunity of calling attention to the great development that has recently taken place in some of our Home Health Resorts, especially to the introduction of the Aix system of douching and massage at Bath, together with other improvements, which have restored to that city more than its ancient reputation, to the admirable improvements introduced at Leamington, at Woodhall Spa, at the salt baths of Droitwich and elsewhere.
