The United States Geological Survey has estimated 1 that the State of Washington contains tons of bituminous coal and tons of subbituminous coal, in beds more than 14 inches thick. As the present rate of production is about tons a year, Washington apparently contains coal enough to supply Pacific coast markets for many years.
