Excerpt from College Carols
These College Carols originally appeared as a series, by "The Jack Daw of Rhymes, " in Alma Mater, the magazine conducted by the undergraduates of Aberdeen University, between November, 1888, and February, 1894. The present selection, less than half the original number, has been made on the basis of representing the greater part of the students experiences. Seven of them, however, were not included in the complete series. Three - "The Boon of Bohn, " published in February, 1887, "Greit for Greek, " and "The Student and his Bow-wow, " were contributed to Alma Mater, and four - "In the Quad, " "The Weary Student, " "On a Mantle-shelf, " and "By Torchlight, " to other periodicals. They have all been subjected to revision, and some notes, which it is hoped are not superfluous, have been added.
