Excerpt from Congenital Club-Foot, Its Nature and Treatment: With Special Reference to the Subcutaneous Division of the Tarsal Ligaments
To Stromeyer belongs the honour of having introduced subcutaneous division of tendons into surgical practice, and thus indirectly, the credit of having founded on its present basis the principles and practice of orthopædic surgery.
The discovery was introduced into this country, and first practised by one of Stromeyer's earliest patients - Dr. Little - to whose courage and subsequent practice and teaching subcutaneous tenotomy owes much of its present success. It was largely Dr. Little's enthusiasm which helped the new operation over its earliest difficulties and over the opposition it at first met with on the Continent, and in this country also.
