Crazy Tales (Classic Reprint)

Excerpt from Crazy Tales

The reverence and respect due to oneself is the greatest of all, fays Pythagoras: knowing how difficult it is to serve two matters, the Author is, and hopes he shall always continue, accountable only to one.

There is something for engaging in your service, that, though he can seldom do any thing entirely to your satisfaction, yet he cannot find in his heart to be angry with you, or to wish to change his dependence.

He is too sensible of your discernment to have any thoughts of wheedling you into an opinion of his performance, of the two he believes he could sooner prevail upon the world to be indulgent: the world has too much business upon its hands to be a severe judge, or to be difficult to please in trifles, the world must be amused, but, like the before d'aimer there is no necessity for perfection to be one of the transient objects of its amusement.
