DIRTY

The story takes place at a time in the not too distant past. It is about passion, greed, loyalty, love, respect and the travail of a young boy, who was born into circumstances beyond his control and through no fault of his own, was deprived of parents and role models that would direct his course down the right path in life. This story of survival in a jungle of the disenfranchised - prostitutes, drug dealers, addicts and poverty. This story can only be truly understood at its' deepest level by someone who has experienced the culture depicted in the book. It is a realistic view into the rich and colorful fabric of a culture, not known by many. Particularly people from a privileged background, to which some portions of the book may be shocking. The dialogue is so realistic that it captures you and you feel you are present as it sweeps you into the minds of the characters. The message, however, is ultimately the axiom that all tragedy and travail presents a unique opportunity for redemption and enlightenment - to which we all can relate. I strongly recommend this book. It is compelling and should be required reading for all who have a social conscience. Artis Bolden is to be complimented on this powerful and well-written story.
