Moreover, in throwing himself into a part, he drops his self-consciousness and enters into the experiences of others, always a valuable social and ethical lesson. This is the fundamental purpose of, and the chief reason for, the modern dramatic movement, which aims to carry the boy or girl beyond reading a story into 273n it, and beyond recitation into spontaneous action.
