Simple rhymes is all they air,
Writ about the Southwes' where
Folks talk plain an' som'times swear.

Livin' clos' to natur' they
Alus take the sho'tes' way
To say what they've got to say.

Dialec' its called by some
Easte'n folks that chence to come
Out here lookin' fur a home.

But it savors o' the s'il
An' the forests an' the wil'
Flowers that cultivation sp'il.

An' the people un'erstan'
Ev'ry accent spoken an'
Cling to it on ev'ry han'

On its sho's the cottonwood,
Dreamin' in its mossy hood,
Casts its shadder on the flood.

An' the rustic lovers glide
In the twilight side by side,
Happy that the world's so wide.
