Addressing this gap by providing a contemporary compilation of the eighteenth-century "perpetual peace" proposals together with a cogent introduction to the topic's contemporary links to global governance and cosmopolitan democracy, this volume features full-text proposals by Rousseau, Bentham, and Kant, as well as selected extracts from the lesser-known Saint Pierre, accompanied by individual introductions and reader-accessible commentary.
