Excerpt from El Quijote y Don Quijote en América

Tres puntos explanará en mi conferencia de esta tarde: relataré, en primer lugar, lo que hasta ahora se sabe y se tiene por cierto acerca de cuándo y cómo fueron llevados a América los primeros ejem plares del Quijote, expondré luego el resultado de mis investigaciones, enteramente contrario á lo que hasta hoy se havenido creyendo, y terminaré exa minando, someramente, por no cansar demasiado vuestra benévola atención, lo que América debe al portentoso libro de Cervantes. Seré breve, y afirmo que no es artificio retórico este ofrecimiento, sino promesa que veréis cumplida.
