Occasionally I found several Versions sometimes contradictory - 40f the same incident: in such cases I usually followed the accounts given by Mrs. Jameson, or by Miss H. A. Guerber, because the ver sions chosen by these authors are the ones upon which the Artists of the Middle Ages based their representations of the subjects.
