Excerpt from Emblems for the Young From Scripture, Nature and Art

The idea of this little book is taken from Mr. Jones's Book of Nature.

Few of the emblems lay claim to much originality. Some of the images are by this time become common property, and some have been picked up here and there, where the author could not now readily find them.

If children are by any lawful means brought to delight in religious truths, something is gained. May it please the Author of all good to bless this little work to such an end.

To each emblem suitable passages of scripture are added. To passages thus detached I am aware that an objection may be made, namely, that they cannot be understood in their full, nor always indeed in their proper sense, without the context.
