Whilst queueing in the supermarket to buy ingredients to cook a special dinner for her gorgeous long-term boyfriend, Ronnie, Emma-Leigh sees an advert for a blind dating event inspired by her favourite TV show. As she is already very much in love, she scrolls past it. A few hours later, she finds her beloved in bed with another woman. The friend she stays the night with convinces the unexpectedly newly-single Emma-Leigh to sign up for the dating event whilst watching the show it was inspired by with her.


The very thought of Ronnie, makes Emma-Leigh sick, let alone the idea of sharing a house with him, so she returns to the village where she grew up. There she finds squabbling sisters, a disapproving mother, and a long list of household tasks to complete in lieu of rent. Geographically, Writtle is more than twenty miles from Ronnie and her life with him, but moving on mentally is as hard as commuting along the busy A12 every day for work.


The experience she's had leaves Emma-Leigh believing she cannot trust any man and will never fall in love again. Can anyone challenge this view and prove her wrong, or will her spirits remain as damp as the autumn leaves that cover the paths of Hylands Park
